"The credit crunch and the shenanigans in the City over the financial debacle will be the topic of a BBC movie with Aidan Gillen and Rosamund Pike as bankers.Links:
The film, Freefall, is being directed by Dominic Savage, who has done extensive research on the greed that got out of control.
He will explore the cause and effect of the economic crisis in his trademark way, using multiple storylines and characters. Savage likes to research his ideas and rehearse with the actors and improvise as much as possible.
'It's a real no-holds-barred piece about the world we're living in - a painful spotlight on a rapidly imploding world where ordinary people were sold dishonest mortgage products, and duplicitous financiers were up to no good,' explained David Thompson, who is producing the film through his Origin Pictures company, to be broadcast on BBC2 early next year.
Joseph Mawle and Anna Maxwell Martin play a couple who had been living in a council house.
'They are persuaded to take on a mortgage but some of these brokers were selling products that were completely poisonous.
If you were selling that in a shop, as a food item, you'd be arrested!' Thompson stormed.
Ms Pike plays a financial broker who realises, almost too late, that there's life to be lived away from the hothouse of the City.
It's one of several projects the actress is working on before she joins Judi Dench in the Donmar West End production of Madame de Sade at Wyndham's Theatre from March 13 for a season.
Dominic Cooper, one of the stars of Mamma Mia! the movie, plays a scumbag mortgage broker. But he doesn't sing and dance."
